FAULT INDICATING SYSTEM

Overhead Line Fault Indicator

Range 11 to 33 kV

(Clip-On Fault Passage Indicator)

SCADA IEC 104 COMPATIBLE

Fault Indicating System is designed to work even in Zero load conditions which is a requirement for Wind Mills & Solar Power Plants

DTU (FPSC - COMS 1)

FPI ( FPSC - SI 1)

The Fault Indicating System (F.I.S) monitors the line 24 X 7 for fault occurrence.

The F.I.S monitors, records, and transmits the line for the following data, Load Current, Electric Field Value, Line  Temperature, Ambient Temperature, Fault Current (Maximum of 1200 A), Line Status (On / Off).

The F.I.S indicates the occurrence of fault, by local indication and by SMS directly to the officials and also to the SCADA Centre.

The fault indication is reset automatically on restoration of power OR after a fixed interval of time if the power is not restored.

The F.I.S indicates when the line has been restored, by local indication (reset of fault indication), by SMS directly to the officials and also to the SCADA Centre.

The F.I.S continuously monitors the line and at fixed intervals provides the status of the line to the SCADA Centre and by SMS directly to the officials (load current).

The F.I.S has intelligent sensors to detect the in-rush current and does not indicate it as a fault.

The FPI can be installed and uninstalled (removed) online, without disrupting the power supply using a hot stick and installation tool.

All the components of the Fault Indicating System are Anti-rust, Corrosion resistant, and UV resistant, hence suitable for long time outdoor exposure, ensuring long life.

The F.I.S is self-sufficient and does not require any external source of power, it has an inbuilt solar panel which acts as its power source and it has a backup of up to 10 days even in cloudy conditions.

Specially made Lithium Iron Phosphate Batteries are used in the DTU which have a life time of up to 8 years and are maintenance free.

All communications in the Fault Indicating System are wireless, ensuring hassle free installation and maintenance free operation.

Fault Reset

a. Current Reset - on restoration of load current in the line.

b. Time Reset - after a specified interval of time (configured as per  client requirement) if the line is not restored within that period.

Fault Identification

The F.I.S is capable of identifying both Phase to Phase as well as Phase to Earth Faults.

The F.I.S has a proprietary algorithm which allows it to automatically choose the right settings for each line – Manual setting is not required – Hence no erroneous indication due to wrong settings.

Settings change automatically during peak load and normal load providing accurate results in any conditions.

Indicator Reset

  • Automatic Load Current Reset – on restoration of power.
  • Time Reset – Configurable as per client requirement to reset after a specified interval even if power has not been restored.

DTU Communication Interface

a. SCADA System

The Fault Indicating System communicates with the SCADA Centre via GPRS.

The Fault Indicating System transmits to the SCADA Centre

  • The Load Current of all the individual phases
  • The Electric Field Value of all the individual phases
  • The Line Temperature of all the individual phases
  • The Temperature of the DTU.
  • Fault Occurrence Indication, separate indication for Short Circuit Fault and Earth Fault, along with the phase on which the fault has occurred.
  • The Fault Current with separate measurement for each phase on which the fault has occurred.
  • The status of the Line, whether the line is On or Off.
  • The Indicator functioning status
  • The Voltage of the battery in the DTU.
  • The charging voltage of the solar panel in DTU

The Fault Indicating System transmits the Data to SCADA Centre by using IEC 60870-5-101 OR IEC 60870-5-104 Communication Protocols.

The Fault Indicating System provides an advantage over any other equipment, since it can be integrated with old SCADA Centre’s which use IEC 60870-5-101 Protocol, as well as new age SCADA Centre’s which use IEC 60870-5-104 Communication Protocols.

Regular update of parameters to SCADA Servers

  • Fixed Interval (Configurable as per client requirement)
  • Change in Parameter values (example: more than 3A change in load current)

b. SMS System

The Fault Indicating System can transmit the information directly to the concerned officials via SMS (GSM Network).

The Fault Indicating System can send SMS to up to 5 Officials as per the client requirement.

Three types of SMS are sent to the officials

  • Status SMS
  • Fault Indication SMS
  • Restoration SMS

The Status SMS is sent at fixed regular intervals (intervals can be configured as per client requirement), the SMS contains the location (up to 30 characters) of the equipment, working status of the DTU, DTU battery voltage, load current of all the individual phases.

The Fault Indication SMS is sent when there is an occurrence of the fault on the line, the SMS contains Date and Time Stamp of the fault occurrence, type of fault (Short Circuit or Earth Fault), the phase on which the fault has occurred.

The Restoration SMS is sent when the line is restored, the SMS contains the location (up to 30 characters) of the equipment, DTU battery voltage, load current of all the individual phases.
